چکیده

Introduction The waters surrounding the Wanshan Islands are important traditional fishing grounds in China, with rich habitat types. Acanthopagrus latus is an economically species this area; however, distribution of its spawning and use patterns remain unknown. Methods Thus 100 otolith samples A. were collected from three geographic areas (MW: Qi’ao Island Mangrove Water Habitat; OW: Yamen Estuary Oyster Farm RW: Dong’ao-Guishan Reef Habitat), concentrations Sr Ca along shortest axis vertical annual or lunar rings measured to span entire life cycle , core edge corresponding environmental characteristics at birth capture, respectively. Results discussion Analysis covariance (ANCOVA) revealed that ratios Sr/Ca edges RW significantly higher than those OW MW samples; both values ratio cores comparable samples. Cluster analysis non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) indicated juvenile stage, individuals two main clusters belonged same cluster. There was no significant difference between Therefore, area thought have originated low medium-salinity mangroves oyster farm habitats Pearl River Estuary. found distinct habitat-use patterns: 1) Marine Resident (7.2% sampled fish) fish marine for life; 2) Migrant (16.4% juveniles inhabit moderate salinity migrate as they grow; 3) Estuarine Visitor (76.4% repeated migration habitats. This suggests widespread estuarine throughout ontogeny. plasticity protection should be considered future fisheries management because Latus has been victim overexploitation resources.

Oceanic migration rates of Upper Chesapeake Bay striped bass ( Morone saxatilis ) , determined by otolith microchemical analysis

As an estuarine-dependent species, striped bass (Morone saxatilis) demonstrate large plasticity in migration patterns (Secor and Piccoli, 1996). Striped bass in Chesapeake Bay are partial migrants; only a fraction of individuals will leave estuarine habitats for oceanic waters (Kohlenstein, 1981). Never the less, Chesapeake Bay striped bass are the major contributors to interjurisdictional ocea...

3d Numerical Model for Pearl River Estuary

A 3D numerical model with orthogonal curvilinear coordinate in the horizontal direction and sigma coordinate in the vertical direction has been developed. This model is based on POM (the Princeton Ocean Model). In this model a second moment turbulence closure sub-model is embedded, and the stratification caused by salinity and temperature is considered. Furthermore, in order to adapt to estuary...

Nitrification and inorganic N in the Pearl River Estuary

We investigated the spatial distribution and seasonal variation of dissolved inorganic nitrogen in a large perturbed estuary, the Pearl River Estuary, based on three cruises conducted in winter (January 2005), summer (August 2005) and spring (March 2006). On-site incubation was also carried out for determining ammonium and nitrite oxidation 5 rates (nitrification rates). We observed a year-roun...

Three-dimensional pollutant transport model for the Pearl River Estuary.

In this paper, the development and implementation of a three-dimensional, numerical pollutant transport model, which is based on an orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system in the horizontal direction and a sigma coordinate system in the vertical direction, is delineated. An efficient as well as simple open boundary condition is employed for pollutant transport in this mathematical model. It is...

The sand dunes migration patterns in Mesr Erg region using satellite imagery analysis and wind data

Understanding the situation, behavior and the nature of sand dunes and also their location, transport and deposition are very important. On the other hand, the importance of sand dunes is due to the impacts that they have on water and soil resources, flora and fauna and human infrastructure. This study, looks at the development patterns of sand dunes in Mesr erg region. In the first part, data ...
